Beautiful natural sandy brown and soft pink coloured large "Noble Pectin Scallop Shell", hand-collected at Florida beaches, on a vintage cloth and pearl necklace, a little turtle connects the shell with the chain, copper coloured aluminum wire art symbolizing the waves at the beach - designed and handmade by Ina May.
The wings of the shell are uneven and asymmetrical. They are not "broken". In fact, this is a natural phenomenon and is due to the way the conch's original two auricles were connected.

All shells come in their natural colours and shape, no paint was applied, just coated with a light glitter to imitate the sparkling sunlight on the shells at the beach...

A sea shell is a hard, protective outer layer usually created by an animal that lives in the sea.
The shell is part of the body of the animal. Empty seashells are often found washed up on beaches. The shells are empty because the animal has died and the soft parts have decomposed or been eaten by another animal.
Using an empty sea shell does not harm and has not harmed any living creature.
This shell was not living when collected.
Beside the natural sea shell i use vintage and second-hand jewelry components for the chains.
I collect them at antique and second-hand stores, markets and auctions. All components get cleaned and sanitized thoroughly.
Vintage chains and components can show signs of patina or lightly distressed surfaces. This is intentional and part of the vintage character.
I can´t 100% identify every single vintage or second-hand material i use - but i guarantee that every piece of "TEM"-jewelry is handmade and one-of-a-kind, with the sustainable and ethical character of eco-conscious art, made of natural and local products.
I love and support the idea of recycling and keeping already existing products in the "circle of life".

when you buy handmade jewelry, the people making those items love what they do. Handmade items will have a lot more time, effort, and love put into their making than anything you can buy that was mass-produced.

All pieces are delicate - so please handle with care!
This shell was personally hand collected by me, thoroughly cleaned, sanitized and finished for the best long term preservation. Nevertheless, sea shells are porous and delicate and I cannot guarantee that their condition will not deteriorate over time depending on their age and previous living conditions.
As with any natural shell, it is not going to be perfect, and may have tiny holes, predator holes or small abrasions. You may even see some tiny bits of coral. This is all normal and fine.
Your shell jewelry is art that is meant for wearing.
Your beautiful necklaces are of no use if you can't show them off to the world. While wearing your best pieces can help you feel your best, it also puts them at risk.
Repeatedly wearing your necklace can cause it to break, fall off or wear down. The more we love and wear our jewelry, the more it deteriorates.
Please do not sleep in them to insure they will stay intact.
Direct exposure to perfume, hair products, creams and oils can damage your jewelry over time.
To avoid tangling while in storage, lay them flat in a drawer, let them hang freely or organize them with boxes and trays.
I highly recommend using a nice bust display for your shell jewelry. So you can enjoy the beauty of the sea shell even when you are not wearing it and keep it safe from damages at the same time. :-)
